Description
Livyatan melvillei is an extinct species of toothed whale related with the modern sperm whales, which lived during the Miocene, approximately 12-13 million years ago. It was one of the largest predators during the Miocene. The remains, founded in Peru, include a partially preserved skull with teeth and mandible. Fragmentary specimens have been also found in Northern Chile.
